Letter From Coach Danny

Dear Parents -

I am re-introducing the Player Homework sheet with a couple of changes to the previous format. For the most part the sheet follows the usual pattern of ticking boxes and entering numbers. The two new sections are the “What Skills Did You Practice” box and the “Positive Player” box.

The “skills” section is designed to help each individual player to focus their own-time practice. I have spoken to the team about setting themselves goals to work on the areas of the game where they feel the least comfortable. If they need help with selecting a topic or own-time-practice advice I am happy to provide it, but initially I want the players to think about and recognize their own personal areas for development.

The “Positive Player” box is there for them to write down anything they did in either training, scrimmages or a game that week, that they were proud of. It only needs to be a sentenc e but it must be specific to the players actions. Eventually each player will have a bank of “positive play” that will help them when it comes to mental preparation for games.

I’m sure you have noticed that we currently seem to be a “second-half-team”. I wish I could say the change for the second-half is due to my brilliant half-time speeches but I don’t think so. It comes down to mental preparation for games. Hopefully with this homework sheet we can establish a strong routine of team training, individual training and mental training.

Thanks for your continued support. As ever, it is a pleasure to coach every player on the team.

Coach Danny
